Varivas Chinu
‘Chinu’ are a hard fighting Japanese species of bream and Varivas have designed the Chinu hooks specifically for dealing with these prized fish.
The Varivas Chinu hooks are of a medium/heavy gauge wire with short shank, turned out eye, forged round bend and off set curved point.
The smaller sizes are ideal for presenting small baits for species such as bream, wrasse, triggers, mullet and whiting but have plenty of strength to give you added confidence should a big fish pick up your bait.
The 2/0, 3/0 and 5/0 are fantastic hooks for presenting crab baits for hounds, bass etc.
For hounds in particular using a Varivas Chinu as the top hook on a pennel rig gives a superb hook up rate with barely a bite being missed. The hook can either be fixed wit ha ‘knotless’ knot or mounted as a sliding hook.
The turned out eye means that if you wish you can use a snell knot to attach the Varivas Chinu rather than a conventional knot. The advantage of the snell knot is that it keeps the hook in line with the trace and when bites are hard to hit this slight change in presentation can see an increase in hook ups.
